The original Volkswagen Polo was a rebadged version of the Audi 50. It was introduced in 1975 on mainland Europe and was launched in the UK and the Isle of Man in 1976. Even though there were only minor differences, the Polo was more basic and thus cheaper than the Audi 50. They were initially sold alongside each other, but the Audi was withdrawn in 1978 due to not selling well.
