The Cadillac CTS sedan was introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model. It was built on GM’s new rear-wheel drive Sigma platform and sported a fully independent suspension. The CTS marked a return to RWD cars for the brand, and was the first Cadillac since the 1988 Cimarron to be offered with a manual transmission. It was designed as a replacement for the Opel-based Catera. Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS and this vehicle marked the production debut of the “Art and Science” design language first seen on the Evoq concept car.
