Audi launched the second generation Audi 100 in 1976. It was initially a 100 HP (74 kW) engine which was later upgraded to 136 HP (100 kW). The Coupé was discontinued, but the Avant. a five-door hatchback model, was launched in August 1977 as part of this generation, with the mainstay of the range remaining the four-door sedan model. A two-door sedan version was offered, primarily on the domestic market, from February 1977.
