The second generation BMW M5, based on the E34 was produced from September 1988 to 1995. It was hand-built at BMW M GmbH in Garching, Germany. It was based on the E34 chassis which was produced at BMW’s Dingolfing plant and the assembly that generally took about two weeks was done either by a single M employee or a team of M employees.
